MY URBAN PIANO | Episode 7
FRIENDS
Berlin
In late 2017, my dear friend and fellow musician Lisa Berg succumbed to cancer. It was through her that I had gotten to know about the DKMS (the German Bone Marrow Donor File) in 2015, and I had registered myself as a donor of bone marrow. The idea of making people more aware of the topic of blood cancer stood at the forefront for “Friends”, for which Steinway & Sons even donated a piano. In the music video, the piano is being painted over in red by a group of primary-school children from Berlin, supported by Luxembourgish artist Raphael Gindt. Back in Luxembourg after shooting the video, I played several concerts on the “Piano of Hope” and then I took it — by train — from Luxembourg to several places all over Germany to support the DKMS on their large- scale trip to World Blood Cancer Day.
